Catherine Whiting's Voice

Here's a story that caught my attention in a big way.

There's a man in Irvington, N.Y. named Charles Whiting. Mr. Whiting is 80 and his wife, Catherine, died in 2005.

Mister Whiting misses his wife so much, he called his own phone number every day just to hear her voice on their Verizon answering service.

Then Verizon upgraded their service -- and Catherine Whiting's message disappeared.

Thanks to someone who works for Verizon, the message was retrieved from the company's back up files and replaced on Mr. Whiting's telephone
service.
CATHERINE WHITING'S VOICE

The voice that you hear when you call Charles Whiting
Is Catherine, his wife, who died in ‘05
She doesn’t say much, but old Mister Whiting
Hears just enough to keep her mem’ry alive.

(Chorus)
Hello, this is Catherine Whiting
I’m glad you called today
I love you and miss you
I'm still your darling every day

She recorded the greeting when they were together
But now Charles Whiting must face life alone
Yet, Catherine is there every day when he needs her
As long as her voice still answers the phone.

CHORUS

We all know that someday we’ll lose a loved one
We keep every faded picture we own
But who’d think to save the voice we’re in love with
Thank God for her message that answers the phone.

(Chorus)
Hello, this is Catherine Whiting
I’m glad you called today
I love you and miss you
I'm till your darling every day.

Hello, Catherine Whiting
I’m calling just to say
That I love you and miss you
And I’ll call you, my darling, every day
I’ll call you my darling -- every day.
